When Nityaananda, our daughter, Isa, and I, were living with our teacher Sri Kaleshwar in his ashram in Penukonda India, we participated in many traditional events. Most of them were fire ceremonies that were held on full and new moons or other special occasions. This time it was a Durga puja in which Mother Divine was worshipped.
Since I had fallen in love with the song, I spent a lot of time working with it after Swami's samadhi. Trying to understand all of its meaning; trying to understand the Mother, all of Her pain. I dived into it as deep as I could; It was a process. I just progressed singing and playing the song with my guitar in my daily practice. Then finally after five years, the thought came, 'Yes, let's record the song now!'
The Mother creates each form in this limitless creation out of Her eternal affection. We are all given life inside Her cosmic womb that is linked to Her universal heart. The Mother’s heart, Her Hrudaya chakra is true love and kindness. Nothing can be created except from love.
It is said that if you visit this temple even once in your life, all of your suffering (karmas) will end. The Divine Mother’s womb is the source where we all came from – Her energy can bless, heal, and create anything. The Kamakhya temple is one representation of Her womb in the five elements (this world).
As Part of our focus on the Sacred Feminine, we look at how we can embody the strength of the Divine Mother in our own lives. We begin with the form of the Divine Mother known as Durga, with her power to kill the negativity and stand in our strenght and confidence.
Who is the goddess Mahisasura Mardini and what is the power behind this chant? Mother Divine is an incomprehensible power and force; in fact, she is the force, the power, the shakti. In the Indian tradition every incarnation or form of the Mother has a name, a story, and represents an embodied frequency of energy within the cosmic reality. The story of Mahisasura Mardini is important if we wish to understand the power of this chant beyond just the literal translation. This ancient story is set in a time not so different from now. When a demon Asura king named Mahishasura though extreme austerity to Shiva, was granted the boon of eternal life. Mahishasura asked Shiva the boon of everlasting life that no man, beast, demon or deity would ever be able to kill him.
Excerpt from the Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna, tr. by Swami Nikhilananda, Ramakrishna-Vivekananda Center, New York, 1973
Mother Divine is the Mother to every soul in this universe. She doesn’t belong to any religion at all. The Mother is the universal God/Goddess. Period. She’s an unbelievable vast ocean. You can’t drink all of Her drops of water. You can digest some but not completely. Some is still left. That is She. Mother is the woman of huge love.

How the Mother Divine created Ganesh? How? How the Mother Mary healed Jesus Christ after his crucifixion using the ash and made him to be alive? Possible. It's possible.
Lord Ganesh was manifested by Mother Divine out of the sandalwood powder. She created a baby then she sent her womb chakra energy—this is a very important point—then she gave the life to the sandalwood powder. That powder turned as a baby. That is Ganesh.
She used Her womb chakra energy to create. That’s clear, that’s the same part as the crucifixion. Refixing Lord Ganesh is also kind of a crucifixion.
Monika and Nityaananda discuss honoring our mothers, the Divine Mother, and the path of the sacred feminine.
Every woman embodies the sacred feminine energy. A woman has a greater capacity to receive shakti. This is a special gift that God gave to every woman. Each woman is an expression of the Goddess. Every woman a natural healer. When women come in touch with the shakti, the power they embody, they will lead the healing and transformation of society. As the feminine energy is cherished and understood, by both women and men, it will transform our relationship with all of life – with our parents, partners, children, Nature, God, and ourselves.
There’s something unifying and one of those things is that desire, that hope, that impossible dream that we can’t let go of to reach that highest state of consciousness and embody it and bring to the world and help others through that place of awareness. So, in this age that destination is reachable. But, only with certain with tools that will cut through certain illusions and nourish the light that we need to grow in ourselves and in each other. And one of those pieces of knowledge that Swami Kaleshwar always kept on the table was the Gayatri mantra and the Shakti Gayatri mantra. He said many times that most of the ancient formulas and the Vedic traditions are well and good, but they’re not that effective right now on the planet for getting us where we want to go, but he said the Shakti Gayatri and the Gayatri never lost that.
Teachings from the ancient knowledge on how Jesus, an embodiment of Brahma consciounesness, merged with the Divine Mother in Her form as Mahakali during his crucifixion and then came back to life during his resurrection as a new creation, merged with all of Creation.
Several students of the ancient knowledge share their personal experiences with our Divine Mother.
You have to know the truth, satya. You have to know your duty, the dharma. You have to receive the peace, shanti. Even if you have millions of dollars, billions of dollars, it doesn't give peace of mind to you. Prema — love, immortal love, pure divine love —you have to receive that in you, you have to hold it in you. Once you have the wisdom of strong love in you then there is no difference between you and the Guru Paramparas. The Guru Paramparas are nothing but satya, dharma, shanti, prema. Who has these qualities, these four abilities, who are carrying them will be able to achieve and receive to any extent, to any level. You will enjoy the divine blessings, guys. Moreover, I'm sure everyone's heart is very open and very beautiful. Be very strong. Be confident. Throw your monkey mind aside. Take all these points, what I’ve said, and be prepared. Your Swami knows what to do in your lives to make you to grow in spirituality, to give strong amazing experiences. Good. Be prepared.
Adi Shankaracharya's & Ramakrishna Paramahamsa's experience with Divine Mother.
During the 15 years of living and studying with Sri Kaleshwar in Penukonda, India, I was blessed to have had many conversations while working on the ancient knowledge, editing and writing books with him. Some of this material is already found in books in its edited form. Reading the original dialog gives an experience of what it was like to sit with him. Sri Kaleshwar, who we called Swami or Guruji, was a great joy to be with, he was informal, unpretentious, funny, a captivating storyteller and a wellspring of divine wisdom. His energy was totally infectious.
This conversation with Swami, Philip Lipetz and I, took place on March 12, 1999, late evening, 11 pm, sitting by his dhuni. Swami was 26 years old.
That's one of the things we need to develop as spiritual seekers on the planet today in this Kali Yuga, this concept of that personal relationship with the divine. It's really great that we share with each other to the degree that its appropriate. We support each other and we ask each other for help when we need it. We give each other what we are able to give. In the context of that we should, we’re also developing a new kind of confidence in ourselves. Not a big megalomaniacal type of confidence, or a spiritual egoism, which is really a big trap. It's an authentic and accurate confidence based on personal experience that God is there, the Divine Mother is real She's in our lives and and this is how She flows in each of our lives.
