Teachings from Monika Penukonda and Nityaananda (Clint Thompson, MD)

The Mother creates each form in this limitless creation out of Her eternal affection. We are all given life inside Her cosmic womb that is linked to Her universal heart. The Mother’s heart, Her Hrudaya chakra is true love and kindness. Nothing can be created except from love.

Each soul is a manifestation of Her love. Sri Kaleshwar describes it this way, “The soul is supremely pure, come and understand. Love is inside the soul.” That love is Her presence hidden in the secret chamber of our heart. Yogananda described it this way, “The Divine Mother is so beautiful! But remember, in Her higher manifestation even that beauty is formless. She is in everything. Her divine, compassionate love is expressed in the raindrops. Her beauty is reflected in the colors of the rainbow. She offers fresh hope to mankind with the rose-tinted clouds at dawn. Above all, be ever conscious of Her presence in your heart.”

We can experience the presence of the Mother inside our heart. Whenever we feel love anything in the creation, Her presence is felt. In each small act of kindness and affection, Her presence is felt. The more we love, the more we feel Her presence with us and in us. Your soul wants to express love in every moment. Love is the soul’s true nature. To have our hearts open permanently is the goal of all our spiritual efforts.

Pure love is the only thing that Sri Ramakrishna longed for. “To my Divine Mother I prayed only for pure love. I offered flowers at Her lotus feet and prayed to Her,” Ramakrishna said. He prayed that She take him beyond all the dualities in Her creation, virtue and vice, knowledge and ignorance, purity and impurity, and take him to Her heart. “Take them, Mother, and grant me only pure love for Thee.”

Adi Shankaracharya &

Ramakrishna Paramahamsa

Personal Experiences of the Light that is Our Divine Shakti

There is a story about the great saint, Adi Shankaracharya. One day, he was caught in the monsoon rains and was swept away in the flooding river. He tried to save himself and swim to shore but suddenly became paralyzed unable to move his arms and legs. As he was fighting for his life, suddenly he heard an old woman laughing on the other side of the river. He called out to her. “Help! Help! Get help!” The hunchback woman laughed again, this time so loud it echoed like thunder in the skies. Then the old woman dove into the river and swam to him. She reached him in an instant then grabbed his neck and screamed at him. “Shankara, where is your strength now? Who is saving you now? You teach that women are a man’s downfall and must be avoided, and this world is nothing but an illusion. You are afraid to even look at a woman. Who is rescuing you now? Don’t you see your strength comes from Shakti? Without Shakti you can’t even move your limbs! Why do you insult the Mother? Don’t you know that I am everything? Don’t you know that you can’t live without me?” Shankaracharya realized this was the Divine Mother Herself coming in darshan to teach him.

Ramakrishna Paramahamsa “Suddenly I had the wonderful vision of the Mother and fell down unconscious. It was as if houses, doors, temples, and everything else vanished from my sight, leaving no trace whatsoever. However far and in whatever direction I looked I saw a continuous succession of effulgent waves madly rushing at me from all sides, with great speed. I was caught in the rush, and panting for breath I collapsed, unconscious. I did not know what happened then in the external world — how that day and the next slipped away. But in my heart of hearts there was flowing a current of intense bliss, never experienced before, and I had the immediate knowledge of the light that was Mother.

The Heart of Our Divine Mother

a poem by Monika Penukonda

Oh Divine Mother!

You who outshines the thousand-rayed sun with your brilliance

self luminous and dazzling

All glories to you

You who are an ocean of grace

and motherly compassion

The embodiment of bliss and love

You are the spotless Mother

The bestower wisdom

and refuge of the great and wise

You are the destroyer of suffering and all fears of your devotees

You grant every wish to those who take refuge in you

Those who bow in devotion to you themselves become a refuge to the world

Oh Queen of the universe, it is you who protects the whole world

Your motherly heart sees the struggles of light and dark that are assailing this world

Oh glorious Mother, you destroy armies of demons and purify them to reach higher worlds

Such is your most kind heart

Your nature is to subdue the actions of the cruel

and enlighten the wise

You are the cause of the welfare of the world

and illumine all with your glance

Oh Queen of Peace, we seek your protection

Oh holy Mother

Protect the whole human family with your ocean of compassion and mercy

Bless all your children to know your love

Teach us to love one another

and create peace and understanding between all people
